Oregano oil is a natural extract of the oregano plant, which is extracted from the leaves of the bush and its flowers. This is a wonderful first aid product for home use for a variety of health benefits for adults and children.
Many of us are familiar with the oregano as a spice commonly used in the kitchen, but the truth is that it is an herb with a wide spectrum of medicinal properties thanks to its extraordinary amount of vitamin A, vitamin K, calcium and magnesium.
Oregano oil also contains B vitamins, dietary fiber, vitamin C, iron, potassium and powerful antioxidants such as carvacrol, thymol and rosemary acid. Together, all this goodness helps to maintain our health and contribute to effective immune function. Oregano oil has become popular in recent years because of its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to fight various contaminants.
Of the dozens of herbs tested in the studies, the most widely studied plant in the context of antibiotic properties is the wild oregano, one of the oreganos. More and more studies have proved that the oil produced from the plant is just as effective as antibiotics and may be used against a wide range of bacteria, including common bacteria that cause diseases such as strep and pneumonia, gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastric poisoning, hepatitis C infection, acne and more. New research also shows that oregano oil is effective against various types of viruses, including avian influenza. Over the past decade, many clinical studies published in microbiology reputed medical journals have shown that is effective against 25 types of bacteria and against various fungi and viruses. In addition, it has been shown to be a safe herb and does not involve side effects.
So what actually makes oregano the most prominent herb in treating pathogens?
The oregano oil contains two prominent active substances called carvacrol and thymol. These are two types of volatile natural chemical compounds that the plants produce in order to protect themselves from various environmental damages and keep away pests. What really gives Oregano such a powerful ability against a wide spectrum of bacteria is the combination of these substances, and especially their very high concentration in the plant. Incidentally, these two substances also give the plant its characteristic smell and taste.
